Excerpts from Memento

Dialogue from the movie Memento.

  • Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They’re just an interpretation, they’re not a record, and they’re irrelevant if you have the facts.
  • I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can’t remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world’s still there. Do I believe the world’s still there? Is it still out there? … Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I’m no different … now … where was I?
  • I don’t even know how long she’s been gone. It’s like I’ve woken up in bed and she’s not here … because she’s gone to the bathroom or something. But somehow, I know she’s never gonna come back to bed. If I could just … reach over and touch … her side of the bed, I would know that it was cold, but I can’t. I know I can’t have her back … but I don’t want to wake up in the morning, thinking she’s still here. I lie here not knowing … how long I’ve been alone. So how … how can I heal? How am I supposed to heal if I can’t … feel time?

Irony called Life

Another something I wrote around 4 years back.

The Irony

I took this pic myself and the very first thing which struck my mind while clicking this one was the irony it depicted. There is a tree ,which is oh not so old, and in the background someone who is old. This is an image of a village lady sitting in the basking sun, cherishing the lovely morning.
There is a thought in her mind , perhaps many , and what can that be. The greenery of the tree, so prominent in the picture, catches the eye instantly but as the focus has ignored her in this picture similarly she may be in her life by her family. Its the story of everyone’s life (exceptions excluded) , you are born and you get all the attention , you grow up and you grab attention and as you grow old you lose attention.
The thoughts in the mind of a person who has covered the maximum probable distance in their life surely echoes what all that person did in their entire life. So I am afraid at times that, if I do something wrong, what will my thoughts be at an age when I have nothing else to do than think of the milestones in my journey called ‘Life’. So I try to do what I feel is right at my heart.
Sometimes the thought of being so alone and lonely shudders the young heart in me.The look on the face of the old lady in the picture speaks a thousand words though she does not. The plant in the foreground represents the distance between her present and her greener age.The picture depicts Spring and Autumn at the same time.
Live life to the fullest, till you can…
Be Young at heart and stay greener on the inside, though what people see is autumn

Something I wrote a long time back…

“I always wanted to…”

“I always wanted to…” sounds familiar isn’t it. This is the thought that echoes in my mind atleast once everyday. The thought is complemented by a different end each day, I always wanted to have more money, I always wanted to be a famous person, I always wanted to be in XYZ place , I always wanted to be able to fly, I always wanted to have magical powers , I always wanted to have a genie of my own and the list perhaps goes on till you can imagine.
This thought provoking “I always wanted to” was seeded into my mind by a latest car ad that comes on and off now adays on TV. Its the Tata Safari Dicor (the ad) and it really has some very thought provoking stimuli in it. I could not help writing about it.

This guy, standing in the middle of the crowd says ” I always wanted to quit on moday morning” …perhaps the thought of many in the crowd and many in the real life too. Out of 100 people I think only 2 or maybe 3 are really happy with what they are doing , for the rest its their bread and butter. This is the world sir, its harsh, what do you think ? everyone’s not born with a golden spoon in their mouth.

Here this guys says “I always wanted to swim with the whales” ..ah my oh so old fantasy of swimming with the dolphins comes to my mind. I really want to swim with the dolphins once in my life. I love the movie series Free Willy just because of this. Ah the freedom of the sea, the intoxication of free will and the spirit of an explorer. Makes me feel ecstatic only when I think of it.
Here this old man says “I always wanted to chase the rain” .This echoes the thoughts of my mind every rainy season, the raindrops falling on the glass windows making that soothing musical noise, a wave of respite and heat released from your brain when you hear that sound . I dont know what always holds me back from going and expressing my joy by feeling the raindrops on my face. Its the dammn sophistication or the thought “Hey What will people think…” Darn!!! My thoughts which hold me back from enjoying the joys of nature.

Here this guy echoes me. What I and you perhaps really do… He keeps sitting and thinking “I always wanted to…” and the cloks behind him keeps running in circles as it does for all of us . Time passed by and we keep thinking “I always wanted to…” Just look at the depth of these words, Then there is the line which I love “Reclaim your life ” , but then it occurs to me ..”HOW !! Godammnit !! HOW???”

Then I think how not only me but many people just think and hold themselves back by saying this to themselves “I always wanted to…”. According to me as the technology progresses and the world becomes so techhy we are losing the sense of Reclaiming our lives , we rather prefer to be enslaved by our thoughts , the world , the material things just to show something to whom …These Mortals (who really dont care). We entered the 21st century 5 years ago , and it brought with it many a lot new great technology, but I am afraid for many of us it took away our creativity, our freedom of thoughts , the thoughts being guided by the material things which if not in reach ,we struggle to earn to get them, and what after you have it….The charm is lost in not so long …Then what …We see something else and then work towards it ….

Stop it!!! We need a break …and fulfill atleast something that “I always wanted to” thoughts say to you. I dont want to think about what people are thinking of me and have fun like I am in the world for one day… I think I will be able to do this some day… alas !!! I may not end up saying , like all these people…”I always wanted to…”

The sun rises and sets every day and the thought “I always wanted to…” echoes in the back of our minds. I wish that we dont miss the oppurtunity called LIFE to play the music our minds long to hear and can give anything to play. The music oh so soothing it takes away all the worries for a moment.
Best of luck …. Mortals !!!

Nature

As the miles roll by and I see Earth’s various hues,

As the downpour washes away my blues,

I feel raw as a newborn child,

All the rough edges i have gathered smoothened and my temper rendered mild,

I beseech life then to let me be but an observer of its mosaic shades,

To let me indulge myself with fleeting glances of its grandeur before my memory fades,

From dawn to dusk, in a nanosecond or a century you inevitably change,

I hunger for a glimpse of your tapestry of sights, smells, tastes,an infinite range,

When I detach myself from my sensory input to immerse myself in your spectacle I

perceive a curious attachment,

A sense of oneness with everything transient and permanent,

I feel like a cog in the machinery of this universe, one of the multitude but somehow extaordinarily significant to the whole,

For in that moment of pure immersion I am nothing without the cosmos and the cosmos are nought without my soul,

In that warped time I traverse centuries and infinite minds in fleeting seconds before I return to my shell,

Nature nothing but you is my God, Heaven and Hell.

I understand my tests are popular reading in the teachers’ lounge.

Life’s disappointments are harder to take when you don’t know any swear words.

Reality continues to ruin my life.

Weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

MOM, CAN I SET FIRE TO MY BED MATTRESS?”
“No, Calvin.”
“CAN I RIDE MY TRICYCLE ON THE ROOF?”
“No, Calvin.”
“Then can I have a cookie?”
“No, Calvin.”
“She’s on to me.”

“What state do you live in?”
“Denial.”

That’s the difference between me and the rest of the world! Happiness isn’t good enough for me! I demand euphoria!

Its no use! Everybody gets good enemies except me.

As a math atheist, I should be excused from this.

I’m learning real skills that I can apply throughout the rest of my life … Procrastinating and rationalizing.

Calvin: I’m a genius, but I’m a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes: What’s misunderstood about you?
Calvin: Nobody thinks I’m a genius.

“Why isn’t my life like a situation comedy? Why don’t I have a bunch of friends with nothing better to do but drop by and instigate wacky adventures? Why aren’t my conversations peppered with spontaneous witticisms? Why don’t my friends demonstrate heartfelt concern for my well being when I have problems? …I gotta get my life some writers.”

“I’m a simple man, Hobbes.”
“You?? Yesterday you wanted a nuclear powered car that could turn into a jet with laser-guided heat-seeking missiles!”
“I’m a simple man with complex tastes.”

Though the name sounds more like a new robot from Japan but this is the CR-48 ,Google’s first Chrome Operating Based laptop. This is the first actual picture released officially by Google. Acer and Samsung would be manufacturing these and they would be available by mid-2011.

The specifications of the laptop are as follows:

In this image is the HTC Google Nexus one sitting with the newly announced Samsung Google Nexus S . Google has again followed the Nexus one path with no viral marketing campaigns and a news kept under the wraps and doing rounds in the speculation circles until a week before the phone would be available from BestBuy from December 16 for USD 529 for an unlocked phone. Though, this has been one of the great things about the Google phones that they are available off-the-shelf unlocked and the users don’t need to run about for getting some hacker to write some code for unlocking a locked phone and then being able to use it. As is the case with the famous Apple Iphone.

The Nexus S has the same processor as the Samsung Galaxy S i.e. the 1 Ghz Hummingbird. The main differences between the Nexus one and the Nexus S are the processor( Nexus one has the 1Ghz Snapdragon while the Nexus S has the 1Ghz Hummingbird which is better in rendering graphics), the screen size (Nexus one has a 3.7 inch screen compared to the 4 inch in the Nexus S) , one of the very advantageous differences is the on-board 16Gb memory in Nexus S compared to the puny 512 Mb in the Nexus one making the space available for applications a bare minimum for the power users, though I am a bit surprised that apart from this 16 Gb there is no card extension slot in the Nexus S , another difference that is apparent is the change of manufacturer from HTC to Samsung and the final difference is the battery which was 1400 mAh in the Nexus one and is 1500 mAh in the Nexus S.

The Nexus S would be coming factory installed with the Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread, though the Nexus one too is slated to receive the update in the next few weeks. The hardware looks good and the Android goodness makes the phone definitely worth the wait if you are planning to purchase a new smart phone. And since I myself am a Nexus one user, I would vouch for the Nexus S in comparison to its competitor : “The Apple Iphone”.

Some of the major highlights of the Android 2.3 OS are:

  1. New on-screen keyboard. The standard keyboard has been greatly improved in Android 2.3, with faster input and more intuitive typing. Even cut-and-paste got a makeover.
  2. Streamlined user interface. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use.
  3. Application and power management. Android 2.3 provides better insight into what is running in the background, how much memory and CPU time it is using, and even lets you kill misbehaving apps.
  4. SIP Internet calling. Voice over IP is integrated directly into Android 2.3. Unfortunately a third party SIP account would be needed to use this feature.
  5. Download management. All your downloads from your browser, email, and other apps, can now be viewed and controlled from one place.

This is the phone to lookout for the Android lovers this holiday season, its to wait and watch whether Google would be able to weave the magic with Nexus S which the Nexus one could not.
